Kyrie Eleison, an Austrian band, existed between 1974 to 1979 and then become Indigo. The music of Kyrie Eleison seems to be most inspired by Genesis's Trespass, Nursery Cryme, and Foxtrot -- those records represent the best period of Genesis. The four long tracks on the album The Fountain Beyond the Sunrise are flawless, with great themes and powerful instrumental parts. The musicians are skillful and the compositions are absolutely magnificent. The Fountain Beyond The Sunrise LP is considered by many as one of the best descriptions of Art Rock. They also did a theatical show on stage with costumes and fantasy lyrics. The man beyond this great outfit is Gerald Krampel, who wrote the music. This LP is a must for 70s progressive rock lovers and now it was finally re-released along with all the recorded material of Kyrie Eleison. EditorialThe 3CD boxed set includes the band's album The Fountain Beyond the Sunrise, including a studio demo recording track from 1977, another album that was released only on CD in 1994 called The Blind Windows Suite, which includes the band's initial demo session recordings, and a third CD containing a live show in Vienna from 1975 which includes even more unreleased material, with a 30-minute piece, and also includes the opening track of the Fountain album. The box set includes a lavish 36-page booklet printed on high quality paper containing the complete history, time-line and the group's line-ups for the years, a list of albums and singles they released, lyrics (which the exception of the live album), credits, exclusive photos, promotional ads from the '70s, and more. All three CDs have been digitally remastered using advanced software and unique technics, and the results are clearly audible. The Fountain Beyond The Sunrise CD has much less audible distortion than the original release, and sounds much cleaner and more ambient. The Blind Windows Suite album has been remastered from the original master tape using delicate restoration due to the tape's condition, and thus an extra track has been extracted from it (which is featured on the Live CD as a bonus track), as well as 4 additional minutes of a quiet transition within the song Get Me Out that was originally dropped from the CD release of Blind Windows because it was found unreadable. The sonic improvements are so much apparent that owners of the original release might not recognize this album as being the same one. The Live 1975 CD has been also been remastered from the old tape that held it for the past 27 years during which it sat unplayed. The resulting CD sounds as good as an official live show should sound although the original recording was inaudible due to very bad balance and lots of tape hiss. It also contained a fair amount of static noise at parts, which was greatly reduced but can still be heard on two or three places throughout the show. In all, this 3CD box set is a great and complete discography of this underground Austrian progressive rock band, that more or less remained an underground group, until now. A note from the Kyrie Eleison book and keyboard player Gerald Krampl KYRIE ELEISON was formed in 1974 by three schoolfriends: Gerald Krampl- keyboards, Felix Rausch - guitars and Karl Novotny - drums with Wolfgang Wessely- vocals and Gerhard Frank - bass. After the departure of Felix, Gerhard and Wolfgang, due to musical differences Michael Schubert - vocals, Manfred Dropela - guitars, and Norbert Mann - bass, joined the remaining two members in 1975. In this line up the band was touring heavily through Austria, when in1976 the idea to produce a record was born. When it found out that the musical concept of a "rock theater" with large-scale compositions and without a commercial single did not fit in the concepts of the major companies, I decided to take the risk and produce the LP on our own label (Merlin Records) by myself. So at the end of 1976 we went into a very cheap studio, and began to record nearly under live conditions with only 2-track recording machines. The release of the album in January 1977 was quite a sensation, as if was one af the first independent releases in Austria and therefore highly acclaimed by the press and music magazines. Parole II's release started the big guest tour in the band's history where we played in all major cities in Austria, as well as in same big open festivals together with bands like VAN DER GRAAF, COLLOSSEUM, AMON DÜÜL, EELA CRAIG, OPUS etc. Despite it all the financial situation of the band was even worse, and the sales figures of the album stopped at about 1.000 items, which could obviously not cover the costs. So in 1978 Karl Novotny and Manfred Drapela decided to leave the band and finish their musical career . They both were replaced by Otti Singer - drums - and Gerhard Eder - guitars, which kept the band alive for nearly another year. But it did not lead out of the permanent financial crises. After a lot af further concerts, many of them self-organized, and plans for a second LP which were not to be realized, as well as increasing personal problems with singer Michael Schubert, I decided to give up the band at the end of 1978.
